Finding Focus...
Yesterday was a quilt guild meeting day. I showed three quilts that I recently quilted (I will feature them in future blogs). Oh, I do so love to gather with other likeminded people. Quilting tends to be a solitary activity, I am social and need the contact.
Today I had planned to clean the house. It is the afternoon now and I don’t think house cleaning is happening. I have been extremely productive but not focused. This is the circular part of the creative process. Thank goodness I exercise first thing in the morning, or it might not get done.
I was focused on lining up the blogs, reels and text that I need to do for the month. Then I started cutting fabric for blocks. Next, I decided to take photos of some finished blocks and post them on Instagram. Back to focusing on the monthly list. Got distracted by some half square triangles and started laying out blocks with them. Then I started looking at quilt tops to quilt next…Yikes!
This is like opening a can of worms. I have stunning quilt tops that need to be quilted. I am looking for a variety of quilts for the next launch. I pulled out so many quilts. After much sorting and deliberation, I have six quilt tops in the lineup.
Lunch helped to pull me out of the quilt top loop. Next, office work. This is another endless process. It’s been several hours and my mind is wandering back to quilting. If I get up for a water break, I doubt I will return to the computer. Maybe a few photos of the next quilts will satisfy my need to touch fabric.
By nightfall I always have my life in some sort of order. If I don’t my brain will not rest. A bit of hand work always helps. I love my sleep!
Focus can be multifaceted. At the end of the day what matters is if I have found joy in the process of living life. A sprinkling of gratitude always helps. Tomorrow is another day and my quilting life marches onward.
I want to also give praise and recommendation for my website and marketing manager Steve Horrocks-Burgess. He sends me a monthly spreadsheet with recommendations. Steve designed my logo branding and website which went live at the start of the year. He is fabulous to work with and guides me in the technological world. If you would like support with branding, websites or marketing you can get in contact with him at steve@betruecreative.com.
