My Current Quilts In Progress (QIP)

A new year has brought with it change. A new website and a new computer. I have been cleaning out files and reorganizing my record keeping. This change also encompasses all aspects of my quilting world. I have sorted and cleaned out my fabric storage and my clothing patterns…Yay!
This week I started on the monumental task of going through my “Quilts In Progress”. I started by comparing my QIP computer list with the actual project bins. My rough count is at about 60 projects, but I’m sure that will go up as I progress. A bit overwhelming even for me - It’s a good thing I love to make quilts.
Doing a fabric pull and putting a pattern with it does not qualify as a QIP. I do this often. It is so much fun to see fabrics together and think of all the possibilities of what I can make. Sometimes these fabric pulls make it to the cutting table and sometimes the fabric goes back onto the shelf.
When a design is settled on, the fabric has been cut, and the applique or piecing has begun, then it is a QIP. Finished quilt tops with backing and binding are in a different category.
The task at hand for each project is to make or update a computer file that has progress photos and a description document. I keep a handwritten record with each project, and as I work on it everything gets updated. I have high expectations, but if I keep on top of my record-keeping things go much smother.
This inventory process gives me the opportunity to assess my QIP. Keep, donate, gift, or take it apart are all options. A little voice in my head tells me I should not buy more fabric or start a new project. I will agree with the voice, but I also laugh because I know this too will pass.
Pictured are a few of the QIP that remind me why I love fabric and quilting. I speak lovingly to them telling them they are not forgotten as I put them on my project list. Quilts In Progress are part of my quilting life.
