New Quilt Update - 'True Blue' to 'Compilation'.

This is a progress report on the True Blue pattern by Lissa Alexander. The pattern used a blue and white color palette.

I am naming the quilt ‘Compilation’.

After much sewing the blocks and corner units are at the set together stage.

The original pattern finished at 57.5’’ x 71.75’’. I decided to enlarge my quilt and have no restraints on color or prints. My goal was to use up my small scraps. There are three different blocks that are then framed in alternating light and dark corner units. I needed a total of 36 blocks. I cut out 121. Yes, I went a bit overboard. I realized I needed to see the completed blocks to be able to select which ones to put into the quilt. This meant sewing all the blocks. The positive is that I now have 85 extra blocks ready for another project.

I tried to steer towards a more traditional color and print palette in the blocks I selected. There is a lot going on in the layout. Each of the three different blocks needed to be in the right place. Then the corner units need to alternate between dark and light. This entails quite a bit of crawling around on the floor and rearranging placements.

I defiantly did not make enough corner units. Back to my 1.5’’ strips. I had fabric strips of more modern prints that I quickly decided would look just fine in this scrap mix. It was back to the sewing machine for another round of much sewing, pressing and cutting.

Usually after I have the quilt laid out, I label and stack the rows for sewing. This allows me to get the quilt off the floor and to be able to use the room again. Not so with this quilt. It is so busy that I could easily mix things up. I will sew a few seams at a time and place them back into the layout.

Finishing this quilt top has now moved to the top of my sewing list. Koko the cat loves to roll around on my projects and make a mess of things. The door will be shut until I am able to get my room back.
