Sunlit raspberry bush with dense green leaves and a few ripe red berries against a clear blue sky.

I was picking raspberries and thought about how it relates to my life.

Assess the situation and be prepared. Long pants and long sleeves will avert a week or two of healing from thorn scratches.

Sometimes you have to navigate the thorn bushes of life to find the fruits of your labor.

Perspective changes everything! I think I have picked all of the berries, then I crouch down or move to the other side and suddenly there are berries I could not see.

There is great satisfaction in the process. I love the thrill of the hunt. I am methodical and thorough in my process.

Attention to details has it rewards. Karl will do the obvious berries. I come in for the second round and do the detail picking.

A bit of maintenance and upkeep always pays off. Pruning and watering guarantee a crop for next year. Karl is the gardener; I only help with the harvest and processing.

Life is bountiful and there is always enough for everyone. There are berries I miss or don’t pick before they over ripen and fall to the ground. It is OK, the bugs need food and everything is part of the cycle of life. I always have enough.

Lush green shrubs and a large tree in a sunny yard, with a house and RV partly visible in the background under a clear blue sky.
Dense green and yellow shrubs fill a sunny suburban yard, with trees and house roofs visible in the background.
Freezer shelf with zip bags of frozen raspberries, some Great Value labeled; one bag marked 7-26-26.

Thank you for reading,
