Baskets and a suitcase filled with colorful fabric scraps on a wooden bench. A cozy, organized craft setting with a variety of patterns.

I volunteered to do a program for one of my quilt guilds in October. I’ve been struggling with what topic to do the program on. When I was working on the tote bag sample made with selvages I decided I will do a program on scraps, specifically strip and string scraps.

This is a sub-set of the broader scrap quilt genre. Traditionally narrow long scrap strips are sewn to a foundation to create “scrap fabric”. There are so many patterns and variations that can be made with this concept.

I pulled out my baskets of selvage strips, scrap strings and strips that measure - 1.25’’, 1.5’’ and 2’’…I have a plan! Patterns have been selected. Foundation fabrics are cut, marked and ready for me to start making samples.

I pulled finished projects and tops I have ready to quilt that feature strings and strips. My summer is filling up with travel plans so I think it best to get started now. The program will probably change as I work on ideas. I’m excited to see where this endeavor will lead.
