Totes!
A slight diversion from the standard quilt making. I am doing a program on totes for one of the quilt guilds I belong to. I have been making demos and finished samples. There are two totes I will be showing how to make.
One is a large “Quilt Tote”. As you can see in the photos, I have three king size quilts stuffed into the bag. This bag is made from a sturdy fabric such as canvas. My brown bag is made out of upholstery fabric and has stood up well to many years of dragging it to show and tell.
In preparation to make the bag I pulled all the canvas fabrics I have and rummaged through trims that I thought would be fun. The poodle print and pink dog bone print will make fun bags. I think I will start with those two fabrics.
The second tote I will be demonstrating utilizes selvages from quilting fabrics that are usually cut off and discarded. The selvages are stitched onto a foundation fabric. I am making usable fabric pieces out of trash. This is a twist on the traditional string quilting concept. A tote is a great way to showcase scraps.
If time permits, I might make a tote with scraps using the stitch and flip string method. I am interested in seeing the difference in the finished tote bags.
