Upcycling Pillow Cases Into A Split Skirt

I have an extensive collection of vintage pillow cases.  I use them and was pulling a set for the bed when I found a set from the early 1900’s that were extra-long. I held them up and Urika! My mind thought I wonder if I could make pants from these?


I pulled a simple pull-on pant pattern with an elastic waist. I mended the edge trimming then lined them up. One pillow case was longer than the other and had been pieced together from multiple pieces. I trimmed the top so everything was the same length.


Next, I marked the front and back crotch lines using the pant pattern. This was my only seam. I ignored the side and inseam cutting lines because I was using the finished pillow case width. The legs looked huge but I knew once I sewed the top casing and added the elastic the lightweight muslin of the pillow cases would drape beautifully for a split skirt. 


I like my new from old upcycled split skirt. A perfect summer addition to my wardrobe.
