My Fabric Stash

I often reference that I pull fabric from my stash to make or round out the fabrics I am using in a quilt. I buy fabric because I like it. I usually have no idea what I will do with it. For backing fabrics, I like to buy 7-10 yards. All other fabrics I buy whatever amount I desire. I always check out the sale area of a quilt shop. It is a great way to round out the latest line of fabric that I have picked up.

I wash my fabrics. An old habit from my dressmaking days. I spend a lot of time washing and ironing fabric. Of course there are fabrics I don’t wash. Pre-cuts, some neutrals and that fabric I just can’t wait to cut into. I have never regretted washing a fabric, but there are fabrics I wish I would have washed.

Most of my fabrics are stored in a 5’ x 8.5’ room that is in the downstairs near my studio. I sort fabrics by color and sub sort by genre. I also have groupings of fabrics for want-to-be quilts. I store larger scraps in bags and keep them with their color group.

My stash is fluid and constantly changing. Currently my “small” scraps, 1’’,1.25’’, 1.5’’ & 2’’, are living in the bottom drawer of my pattern cabinet. When I can’t stuff anymore scraps into the drawer it is time to use them in a quilt.

Enjoy a glimpse into my fabric stash.
